It has been a great start to preseason for both football and netball. There are a lot of new faces around at the moment which we always like to see. We have a big year ahead in 2015 and look forward to seeing everyone returning in January. Preseason calendars for both football and netball will be updated before the break.

Until then, have a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy holiday season.

The club is looking to expand its netball program as it enters its second year in 2015. We started with one team this year but are hoping to grow to two or three teams next season. The girls have been playing really well and want to become more than just a netball team. They want a netball club that is linked to our successful football club.

For anyone who is interested in joining, please follow click here to visit the netball page and register your interest. One of our people will get in touch with you and provide details on what training sessions are going to be run in the preseason.

We are interested in anyone who wants to play, so please contact us and become a part of the next group of Skye netballers.

We have a couple of new coaches on board so it will be a great opportunity to introduce yourself and start to work with them.

The first session will be held at Banyan Reserve - Luscombe Ave Carrum Downs - on Wednesday December 3rd at 6:00pm.

Click here to view the pre-Christmas calendar

We look forward to seeing everyone down there working hard.

Light Up Wedge Road!

After many years, it has finally happened. The submission for full ground lighting on Steve Thompson oval at Carrum Downs Recreational Reserve has been approved by state government with the funds available to start the project as soon as possible. The reserve will also be the home of a new CFA facility on the corner of Wedge and Frankston-Dandenong roads.

The Napthine government have pledged to invest $1.1 million into the reserve for new facilties should it be re-elected in November.

Premier Dennis Napthine and Member for Carrum, Donna Bauer, paid a visit to the reserve on Friday afternoon to make the announcement along with members of our club, Carrum Downs Cricket Club and the Carrum Downs CFA.

This is welcomed news for our club and others who share the facilities. The reserve has been neglected for some time and it is great to see it finally get the awareness and love that it needs. It will be fantastic for our players to be able to train under full ground lights.

Donna Bauer has done a mountain of work in getting the state government funding for the lights, re-election investment as well as many other projects that will benefit Skye/Carrum Downs residents. We thank her for being a strong supporter of Skye FNC throughout the year. You can view her work at www.donnabauer.com.au.

This is a huge step forward for our football/netball club. It is a win that we have been aiming at for a very long time. Well done to everyone who put in the hard yards over the years to make this ground lighting dream a reality.

We have so many people working hard behind the scenes. It is now up to everyone to support the club and help us to make it a big success.

For full details of the announcement, download the media release here.

Awards Season

We apologise for the delay in news posts. It has been a very busy time for the club with the conclusion of finals and the beginning of presentation evenings.

Unfortunately, all three sides went down in the grand finals that were played at Jack Barker oval on September 20th. The thirds began the day in terrific fashion opening up a six-goal lead at half time. However, it certainly was a game of two halves as Dingley soon showed their class to eventually win by one point in a classic grand final. Commiserations to Ben Earnshaw and the thirds guys, but they must also be congratulated on a fantastic year.

The reserves didn't have their best day and sadly went down to Mordialloc by 49-points. The reserves had an amazing season, going undefeated in the home & away rounds. It is disappointing to stumble at the final hurdle, but we look forward to seeing what they can produce next year.

The seniors won all but one quarter when they took on Mordialloc. The unfortunate fact was that the one quarter they did lose was Mordialloc's best by far and gave them enough of a lead to win the game by 34-points.

Congratulations to Dingley and Mordialloc. We look forward to meeting again in the future.

On Friday October 3rd, the SFL held their annual awards dinner at Sandown Greyhound Park. Several Skye FNC members attended what was a fantastic night put on by the league.

Our club had a lot of success, capping off what was a terrific year. The flags would have been nice, but the awards we did win served as a nice consellation:

  • Dan McEwan - Bennett Medal (SFL Senior Division 2 Best & Fairest Winner)
  • Luke McGuiness - SFL Senior Division 2 Leading Goal Kicker
  • Brad Dyer - SFL Third-Grade Leading Goal Kicker
  • Skye FNC - SFL Division 2 Club Champion

Congratulations to our league award winners!

Flying Into Finals!

It was a great start to the finals for two teams, but an unfortunate end for another...

The thirds played a fantastic team game to defeat Mount Waverley, whom they had not played all year. Both sides were in the top three all throughout the season and it was always going to be interesting to see who came out on top in the first encounter. Well done to the thirds boys in their first finals victory.

The seniors took on Caulfield and were able to get the job done with some inspired performances around the ground.

Unfortunately, the under 19s were not able to overcome a strong St Pauls side. Our 19s had the better of St Pauls during the year, but were unable to continue that form in their first final. Congratulations to the under 19s boys for an excellent season and for making finals. We look forward to seeing all of you at preseason aiming to become bigger and better!

Thank you to all volunteers who assisted over the weekend. Your support is very much appreciated.

We now turn our attention to round 2 of the finals series:

Seniors Vs Mordialloc - Saturday 2:15pm
Reserves Vs Doveton Eagles - Saturday 12:00pm
Thirds Vs Dingley - Saturday 9:30am

All three sides are playing for a spot in their respective grand finals. All games this weekend are at Jack Barker Oval on Weatherall Rd in Cheltenham. That's right! We have THREE teams playing at the SAME VENUE on the SAME DAY! If that isn't motivation enough for you to get down and support the Bombers, then you cannot be helped!

All of our boys are pumped and ready to go. 2014 is the year of the Bomber and we are doing everything we can to give ourselves every chance. All we need now, are the supporters behind us!

Entry fees are:
Adult $12
Pensioner/Concession $5
Children under 15 FREE
Final Series passes $50
Cash only. No EFTPOS.

It's Finals Time!

It's been a long season, but the time has finally come for our club to have our chance at September success. All four sides have put themselves in a position to go deep into September. The club is extremely proud of what each side has achieved this year and we are super excited to see what we can produce over the next four weeks. There are NO LIMITS.

The games this weekend are as follows:

Seniors VS Caulfield
Saturday August 30th at 2:00pm
Jack Barker Oval - Weatherall Rd, Cheltenham

Thirds VS Mount Waverley
Saturday August 30th at 9:30am
Jack Barker Oval - Weatherall Rd Chelthenham

Under 19s VS St Pauls
Sunday August 31st at 9:30am
Springvale Reserve - Newcomen Rd, Springvale

Please remember that our club is on display throughout the finals and we want everyone on their best behaviour. Please be passionate and support the club, but do not cross the line. We want to present ourselves as a supportive organisation that won't tolerate poor behaviour. League representatives and officials will be present at every game to monitor crowd behaviour.

Entry at any ground during the first week of finals is $12 per adult ($15 Grand Final) and $5 per concession ($7 Grand Final). Kids under 15 are free. To avoid paying the entry fee at each venue, you can save by purchasing a finals series pass for $50 at the gate. This will get you into any finals venue over the entire finals series.

If this week wasn't big enough, we have two senior players reaching their 100-game milestone. Marty Watts was never going to let anything keep him from reaching his 100-games and helping to give the team every chance of winning this first final. Congratulations Marty and thank you for your dedication and professionalism that is always on display around the club. A special congratulations goes to our senior captain, Aaron Pacey, who also reaches his 100-game milestone in this first week of finals. Aaron was handed the captaincy at a young age and has grown in to the role magnificantly. He is fearless and leads the boys into battle every week with a determination that is second-to-none. Thank you Aaron for your contribution to this football club and playing such a huge role in it's development. You deserve every success that comes your way and we hope that this is the year!

All the best to each of our sides. Be very proud of what you have achieved, but be hungry for more. Our season begins now. Look after yourselves and each other. We are and always will be.....

The Eleventh Hour

Round 18 is here. For some, it has come too quickly. For others, it is welcomed news. All four sides play at home this week at Kananook Reserve. The end of the home and away season should be celebrated and people acknowledged for all of the hard work that they have put in through the season. For the Skye Football Club, it is only the beginning. All four sides have a real chance of making finals. All sides have the potential to go deep into finals. While it is somewhat relieving to have the home and away season come to an end, it is also exciting to know that we still have so much football ahead of us.

This week:

Seniors Vs Highett - 2:20pm
Reserves Vs Highett - 12:15pm
Under 19s Vs Highett - 10:30am
Thirds Vs Sandown - 8:45am

Let's finish the home and away season with a BANG! We want all Skye supporters to get down to Kananook Reserve and cheer on all four sides across the day. We need as much support as possible going into finals and our supporters are the best at it! Come on down and pick yourself up a supporter scarf for $20. Buy yourself a drink and enjoy some local footy in the sun.

Congratulations to Chris Rodrigues who plays his 100th senior game. It's an early one but be down there at 8:45am to cheer him on in the thirds. Well done to Chris and thank you for your contribution to the Skye Football Club.

Saturday night is vote count night. We expect all players and supporters to be there to witness the best & fairest votes from each round. We'll kick off with the netball at 6:45pm before getting stuck into the under 19s, thirds, reserves and seniors counts. It is a time to celebrate the achievements of the players and recognise those who have had consistent seasons.

All the best to our teams this weekend!

Out For Bloods!

The time has come. It has been nine weeks in the making and we finally arrive at our second top-of-the-table clash against Mordialloc. In the last meeting, the Bloods crept home in boggy conditions at Wedge Rd. Since then, both sides have played dominating football and cemented their places in the top two.

This shapes as the most important game of our home and away season and we encourage every Skye supporter to get to Ben Kavanaugh reserve in Mordialloc to get behind the boys. Don't spend a day to nothing. Make an effort to get there.

The reserves also take on Mordialloc in the unusual timeslot of 9:30am. This is due to the league hosting an AFL International Cup game between Canada and Sweden before the seniors take the field.

The thirds will take on Dingley at 8:45am at Kananook while the under 19s fight to keep their 'double-chance' hopes alive at McKinnon Reserve against St Pauls.

The $3000 draw will be held on Saturday night at the club rooms. If you haven't purchased a $10 ticket, see one of the players at the game and grab your ticket to be in the running. It will be a sensational night and everyone is encouraged to attend.

The season is nearing the end and all of our teams are well-placed to make a massive impact come finals time. But they will need your support. This is such an important time for the club and we want everyone to be a part of it and help us get the results we need.
