The forecast predicted a cold snap and heavy rain on Saturday and everyone was prepared for a chilly afternoon.
The under 19s took on Cheltenham at 10:30am when the sun made a brief cameo. Despite some good patches, our guys weren't able to contain Cheltenham's run. Tyson Ross kicked two goals and young Reece Smart was best-on-ground in the 52-point loss.
The reserves then ran out to take on Doveton Eagles. The Eagles were short on some of their reserves players and weren't able to match it with the Bombers. Our boys controlled the tempo all day and ran out 172-point winners. Matt Poore kicked nine goals and took best a-field honours.
The seniors have been playing some inspired footy of late and were expected to do some damage in this clash against Doveton Eagles. However, it was the Eagles who came out firing. There were some great contests around the ground all day, but Doveton were able to control the game by being first to the ball. Some classy patches were enough to get our guys over the line by three points. Matt Gonzalez kicked four goals and Ash Planner was best-on-ground.
The most pleasing thing was the rain holding off for most of the day!
At the netball, it was a cold, wintery affair. The A-side were able to defeat Springvale Districts 36-24. A sensational effort.
We now look forward to next week when the seniors and reserves travel to Murrumbeena for what is tipped to be a tough clash. The under 19s venture to East Brighton for the first time and the thirds are off to Hallam Reserve. At the netball courts, the As take on Keysborough while the Bs face Dandenong.
