Morning Bomber Army,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all our players , coaches , families, members & sponsors for their ongoing support shown to the Skye Football Netball Club during season 2020, Obviously our club like all other sporting clubs have had a challenging year and would of love to have been playing each , however the health and safety of our players, coaches, volunteers and community is the clubs number one priority. We fully supported the decision by the SFNL & Government that local sport was cancelled.
Saying that the Skye Football Netball Club & Carrum Downs cricket club has been working extremely hard in the background in recent months moving back into the recently refurbished Len Phelps Pavilion. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped out on our Working Bee and making this all happen and Life Member Kev Luke for coming down and cooking the BBQ . and we have also completed some upgrades of our own which will be greatly appreciated by all members once the doors are back open.
These works wouldn’t be possible without the support of our local member – Sonya Kilkenny MP , State Government & Frankston City Council.
I would like to personally thank the support of Russell Blackburn (President – Carrum Downs Cricket Club) and he’s entire committee for supporting myself in my 1st year as club president and look forward to continuing to build on the relationship between both clubs.
In closing, I would like to thank you all for your support shown to myself in my Inaugural year as President of the Skye Football Netball Club. I am always on hand to lend support to all our players, members, sponsors & families.
Finally a massive appreciation has to be noted by the support of my girlfriend Angie Beness for her full support of myself behind the scenes, You’re a great supporter of myself and most importantly the SFNC benefit having you on board.
Senior coaching reappointment- Luke Martin
Netball coaching reappointment- Karyn Madafferi
To my fellow Skye FNC members, committee and players – I’m happy and proud to accept the Senior Coaching role for Skye FNC Netball in 2021.
While 2020 didn’t go to plan we had a very solid preseason with some new recruits joining our ranks and some pleasing results in tournaments prior to what was to be the season proper. As a group we were extremely confident that the year would have been a successful one for the team and the Club.
The unity shown by the team during the ups and downs of 2020 was inspiring and provided me with the incentive to keep planning and forging ahead both for the remainder of this year and looking ahead to 2021. We continue planning for the remainder of the year with the hope that the League may yet get a Summer competition up for Netball and give this team the opportunity to show that they are a force.
A big thank you must go to the team for their efforts to maintain training and fitness schedules “solo”, our 2IC Vee Butterfield, team managers/admin Deb McGuire and Wendy Wellington – one and all for their enthusiasm and willingness when we were able to come back together – these girls truly represent when wearing their Skye colours.
As a group we look forward to 2021 and can’t wait to play the game that we love for the Club we are proud to belong to.
Congratulations to netballer Sarah Stevens, footballer partner Tim Chaloner and big brother Charles on the safe arrival of George Riley Chaloner last week. Both mother and bub are doing great!
Congratulations to netballer Veronica Lucy and her partner James Paxton on the safe arrival of William (Billy)Thomas Paxton this week. Both mother and bub are doing great!
Len Phelps update
It has been a busy few months down the Hanger.
Whilst the season had been postponed and now unfortunately been canceled, the committee has been working extremely hard that when our footballers and netballers take the field and court perspectively, they will be prepared for competition.
When the league handed out a perspective date for commencement back in June, as committee we crunched the numbers and were still be able to operate this season and were all in if a season was to start for Football and Netball. We would like to take the time to thank all the coaches and players for dedicating their time to training even when there was no certainty of the season commencing. We look back at what could of been but also look forward to next season where we believe the Senior mens team can take that next step in their development and play finals football.
Now we turn our attention for the rest of the 2020 season to Netball coach Karyn Madafferi and the senior Netballers as their season is still currently going ahead. The girls have been working hard on their skills buoyant at the fact of being able to train at Wedge road courtesy of the Carrum Downs tennis club.
Len Phelps Pavillion Works
With great excitement we have been finally handed the keys to the Hanger back as the redevelopment works have been completed. After moving in, the Football and Cricket club decided to use the current break to do some much needed works to the bar and kitchen area.
Works are due to be complete mid July.
Special thanks to Sonya Kilkenny, The Carrum Downs cricket club and all the volunteers for helping in the works, your help is greatly appreciated.
